In the Forest of Baba Yaga
Who is Baba Yaga?
She’s the wisdom of the forest, the roots and fibers in the soil, the cranky crone, the grandmother who teaches you to be be your best and wisest and most resourceful self. Her lessons, tasks, seem impossible until you access your deepest knowing and pluck the answer from the well of your psyche. She is the Divine Feminine in gnarled, clever, resilient, crafty, cackling form. She’s the witch of the forest that all the stories warned you about as a child.
Who’s to say that those stories were right? Archetypes tell us something about ourselves, and Baba Yaga is no exception. She is us and we are her. She takes the form of a crone; because she is ancient, she can speak to the feminine soul at any stage in the journey. She has seen it all, heard it all, done it all, the light and the dark. And yet. Still she finds wonder and wisdom in the world, and protects it fiercely.
How dare you trespass in her forest, knocking on the door of the magical house in the woods. Are you seeking her out? Or did you stumble upon her? You’d best have an answer ready if she happens upon you in her realms, and your best chance of finding it is to look inside your own soul and let it rise to the surface.
