Fungi are the ears of the forest, the highway through which information travels. Messengers reaching miles along the forest floor, they are privy to the health of the trees, the death of plants, the richness of the soil. Messages move along the strands of mycelium, delicate threads transmitting wisdom and information. Silent, often ignored, they are Baba Yaga’s favorite scouts and she knows the language of the plants and animals. What appears to be a boulder may in fact be the crone patiently listening to the messages of the forest, her ear pressed to the ground.
